In her poem Metaphors, Sylvia Plaths uses a serial publication of various metaphors to help the ref solve her riddle. Plath begins her poem by stating she is a riddle in order syllables, and the first touch is addicted in the number 9. The poem has club wide-eyed eyes, and individually line contains nine syllables. The title metaphor has nine letters. Its extend that there is some significance and grandness to this number because it is repeated throughout the poem. Plath then uses a serious of nine metaphors to reveal herself making it easier to see that the riddle to be solved is the cashier is pregnant. It isnt a coincidence that the name maternal quality in like manner has nine letters and there are nine months in a typical pregnancy, each with its own phase and purpose. By utilize metaphors, Plath states she is a variety of diff erent objects guiding the reader to explore the mental imagery and wide variety of connotations each metaphor has in social club to find the answer to her riddle. A metaphor is a statement that one thing is something else, which, in a literal sense, it is not. (Kennedy, Gioia 481).
In Line two the fibber begins depicting a mental image of her being crisp large as she states that she is an elephant, a ponderous abode (Kennedy, Gioia 470).
